Project Overview

This beautiful new build apartment block was a design and build contract for Bovis Homes.

The project consisted of the construction of an exciting new development of 40 stylish 2 bedroom apartments, with 3 ground floor retail units and external parking—close to the popular city of Bristol.

The build was created from a concrete podium with traditional masonry, had a curtain walling ground floor and was fitted with sustainable urban drainage systems.

The retail space is shell fit and will accommodate the independent Mama Bears Day Nursery and a local convenience food store.

Added Value

Throughout the project we had 2 sites running concurrently in close proximity meaning we had to manage combined deliveries, but which lowered emissions and saved money for our customer.
The apartments, retail space and nursery were essential in such a large new housing development with the need of new homes. The nursery will help young children to develop new skills in the local community.

Giving back to the communities in which we build is important to us. Towards the end of the project we donated our rainbow NHS banner hoarding and a rainbow happiness bear to a local family who had a daughter with autism and who loved rainbows. Everyday she would take a photograph in front of the hoarding on her way to nursery and since our donation, she can now continue to take a photograph in front of it everyday.

Challenges and Solutions

COVID 19 and the shortage of materials.

Where possible we changed the supplier of material to match the specification as closely as possible as agreed with the employer. If this wasn’t possible or if the delay wasn’t material orientated, we worked with the employer for them to understand the overall effect of the delay so this could be adequately communicated and we could work together to minimise the effects.

The client fit out was needed before the construction had finished.

Where possible we helped but we ensured the client was fully aware of where our obligations ended and theirs begun. This ensured that the expectations of the subcontractors were well managed and the install was seamless with little effect of the project.

Sectional completions with the retail unit going live before the construction complete.

This created a live and public environment with parking in the middle of the site. When the site developed we changed the logistics plan as previously agreed with the end user so as to ensure the Health and Safety of the work force and public was maintained to the highest standards.
